Tuesday’s match will be our last game in the first round of this season’s Uganda Premier League.
Looking at the table and the performances proper, it’s been a round to savour. Despite a few hiccups, the team is still well placed to compete favourably.
Abdallah Mubiru insists the target hasn’t changed.
“Our Target was to be competitive. We’ve tried to keep up with the pace,” Mubiru said ahead of our game against Express tomorrow at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
“Tomorrow’s game is very very key towards our target of the season because if we lose then we’ll be down by 11 points if the table leader URA wins against Onduparaka. That will be a disaster to our campaign.
“So we are going all out tomorrow so we can keep close to the teams that are up so that we remain competitive.”
When the gaffer says the team is going all out tomorrow, you gotta believe him. This is a fixture that has produced 28 goals in the last five meetings.
The last time we met Express at the same venue, we ran riot with a 6-1 victory. Those goals were scored by Pius Kaggwa (a brace) who has since joined Wakiso Giants. Ben Ocen, an own goal and Derrick Kakooza who also notched a brace.
Looking at our past meetings, It will indeed be a tough game. In our previous five games, we’ve won thrice and lost twice. Our opponents are doing pretty well in the league, but like us, they settled for a statement in their last game.
Mubiru and the boys will be raring for victory to cap the first round.
Express are placed 3rd in the table with 29 points, four above us. We sit 5th with 25.
Kakooza, fresh from scooping the Top Scorers award at the AFCON U20 returned to training today. The youngster is available for selection.
Samuel Kayongo, Mubaraka Nsubuga, Fahad Kizito, Musa Matovu are all still out.
