Uganda Police Football Club striker Derrick Kakooza has clinched the best footballer of March award from Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) during the quarterly dinner held at Imperial Royale hotel in Kampala.
The Cop who had an impressive performance in the previous month of March landed the accolade during USPA’s dinner and awards ceremony held on Wednesday evening.
The typical goal poacher displayed a brilliant show during the U20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Mauritania, helping the national team to storm the final on its maiden appearance.
During the continental showpiece, the starlet scored five goals in six games for Morley Byekwaso coached side and went ahead to claim the top scorer gong in the aftermath of the tournament.
He grabbed a hat-trick as Uganda humbled Tunisia 4-1 in the semi-final to storm the final stage before loosing to continental giants Ghana 2-0 during a closely contested duel.
He was awarded an accolade and prize money that was presented by the National Council of sports (NCS) and Uganda Olympic Committee Chairman Dr Donald Rukare.
The ceremony also had USPA president Patrick Kanyomozi, Uganda Swimming Federation president Moses Mwase, other sports personalities and the media.
