Lanky forward Ben Ocen masterminded Police’s 4-1 walloping victory over Soltilo Bright Stars in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16 at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo on Saturday.
Ocen scored twice and assisted super substitute Derrick Kakooza for the fourth goal in the thrilling win while Yusuf Ssozi was another Cop on target.
Target man Ocen launched the scoring party, tapping home a Muwada Mawejje cross from the right in just two minutes as Police went in the driving seat.
In the 18th minute, the visitors equalized through Joseph Janjali who beat the offside trap and slotted home past goalkeeper Derrick Ochan.
Four minutes later, the Cops regained the lead through Yusuf Ssozi who was set-up by captain fantastic Tony Mawejje for a close range tapping.
After 35 minutes, Ocen received Reuben Kimera’s corner and sent a powerful shot with his left foot beyond the reach of goalie Simon Tamale as Police took a 3-1 lead at halftime.
After the break, Police introduced Mubarak Nsubuga on for Muwadda Mawejje and later Herman Wasswa Nteza and Derrick Kakooza replaced Frank Tumwesigye and Brian Muluuli Mayanja respectively.
In the 77th minute, Kakooza recovered his scoring boots after putting the last nail in the coffin. He was played through by two-goal hero Ocen to ice on the cake.
Ocen would later pave the way for winger Duncan Sseninde before referee Ronald Kirangwa blew the final whistle with the Cops smiling to a 4-1 first leg advantage.
“I thank God for whatever he has enabled us to do and I’m grateful with my players, they have tried to put up some good performance much as it’s not our best performance and we are going into the return leg with a reasonable goal margin, much as we believe that Kavumba is going to be another experience on that day and we are going to blame ourselves for any eventualities.”Head Coach, Abdallah Mubiru Said after the win
The Cops will visit Kavumba recreation playground on Wednesday 5th May 2021 for a return leg. The aggregate winner will storm the last eight.
