• URA FC 3-1 Police FC
Uganda Police Football Club played to a disappointing 3-1 away defeat to table leaders URA FC in the Uganda Premier League on Saturday evening at Arena of Visions in Ndejje University.
Ahead of the game, Police knew what was at stake as a win could see us leapfrog KCCA FC from the 4th position who had to return to action the following day but URA had parallel plans for the game.
Going into the game, Cops gaffer Abdallah Mubiru made rotations in the squad that faced the Kasassiro Boys at Lugogo on Wednesday. Eric Ssenjobe started at left back replacing injured Reuben Kimera.
Defender George Kiryowa was deployed in the mid of the park to partner with Yusuf Ssozi as skillful Odong Johnson returned to the starting lineup.
URA FC took charge of the first 45 minutes and kept the Cops defense on the receiving end making goalkeeper Tom Ikara to run for his money on various occasions.
Ikara was forced into a stretching save to parry Ivan Sserubiri free-kick into a corner that yielded nothing before we survived narrowly when Cromwell Rwothomio’s cross from the right went begging.
After 27 minutes, the Cops were once again on God’s mercy with a narrow escape when URA’s Steven Mukwala latched onto Shafik Kagimu’s decent pass but the shot hit the goal post as we claimed a goal kick.
Seven minutes to the half-hour mark, the hosts opened the account through Mukwala’s half volley that beat Tom Ikara. Defender Hassan Mahmood had initially failed to deal with Arafat Galiwango’s cross.
Police then tried to penetrate the opponent’s defense searching for an equalizer but Brian Muluuli Mayanja, Ben Ocen and Duncan Senninde shots were too weak to be dealt with by the hosts’goalie.
At the commencement of the second half, Cops tactician Abdallah Mubiru withdrew Duncan Senninde and striker Ben Ocen for Muwada Mawejje and Fahad Kizito.
After 47 minutes, the hosts doubled the lead through Cromwell Rwothomio who beat Ikara with a near post finish.
Joseph Sentume was later handed his debut in the 2020/2021 season replacing skipper Dennis Rukundo.
In the 63rd minute, the tax men iced on the cake through Joachim Ojera.
This was followed by Police’s fourth change as silent midfielder Yusuf Ssozi paved way for Herman Wasswa Nteza.
The Cops later suffered a predicament when gangly forward Odong Johnson landed on the ground and injured his right hand with a joint dislocation and replaced with Tonny Kiwalazi.
As the game approached it’s destination, the Cops pulled one back through substitute Fahad Kizito who met Hassan Mahmood free-kick and fired home past URA goalie.
The defeat sunk Police in the 6th position on the log with 38 points and we shall host Sports Club Villa on Wednesday at Lugogo.
